You sign a SAFE for an investor. A lease. A contractor agreement. A consent form for school. Maybe a dozen times a year, if you're busy.
The mainstream platforms charge a monthly subscription regardless of usage - billing in full whether you signed one document or one hundred. Cancel and resubscribe each time something needs signing? That's friction the industry profits from.
FreeSign exists because the technology, legal frameworks, and infrastructure to sign documents are mature commodities. ESIGN Act, UETA, and eIDAS make digital signatures legally binding. The marginal cost of one signature is fractions of a cent. There is no reason this should require a recurring fee.
So we built a free, open-source alternative - no subscription, no upsells, no feature paywalls. Sign as many or as few documents as you need. The source is on GitHub: self-host it, audit it, or use this hosted instance at no charge.
